TRUST/I Hope You Dance Series

For everyone who knows your wonderful name keeps putting their trust in you.

They can count on you for help no matter what.

O Lord, you will never, no never, neglect those who come to you.

Psalm 9:10 (TPT)

Redeemed and Reliant

Do you find it hard to believe the King of King wants to dance with you? That He chose you to be His precious partner for life? If so, you’re not alone! God wants me? Broken, tattered me? I have asked these questions too.

Can you name three people you trust? Deeply TRUST. Trust with your deepest secrets and your first-born child. Well, okay, let’s start with two. Trust is hard. Many of us have trusted in the past and learned the hard way not to do that again! This is not an easy task for us. We have been hurt, broken, shattered, devastated. We have started a dance with relationships before and been tripped up, stunned, shocked and traumatized. How then are we to dance across the ballroom floor with the King if we don’t trust Him completely?

Trust in the Lord completely,
and do not rely on your own opinions.
With all your heart rely on him to guide you,
and he will lead you in every decision you make.

Proverbs 3:5

Practicing the Steps of Trust

This is a great and honest question. We practice. Start small. Baby steps. Daily we begin to learn more and more about the King that is sweeping us off our feet. What do we know of Him already?

  • He is good.
  • He is kind.
  • He is loving.
  • He is gentle.
  • He is faithful.

The list goes on and on. He will never leave us nor forsake us. He is dependable, charming and true. Your favorite qualities in others… those are the qualities of the King because man and woman were made in His image.

Teach Me to Trust You More

Just like any other part of the dance, trust comes with practice. I encourage you to take this one step further. True trust comes with devotion. Those who are not passionate about the dance and all that it promises, will most likely miss out on the grande finale due to their lack of trust. So don’t hold back, practice now and practice often. Go ahead, close your eyes, breathe deep, let the quiet set in and learn to live with a new mantra: Teach me to trust You more God. Teach me to trust You more.

When times seem tough it helps to remember where you God has provided for you in the past. Think back to a friend, a job, an unexpected note of encouragement, or a the moment someone shyly smiled at you. It could even be someone who thought to hold the door open for you as you walked in a store. Remembering helps us build trust that God is in it with us, He sends us love notes along the way.

Are there areas you are having a hard time trusting God with right now?  Ask Him to show you where He is working. He will begin to open your eyes to His goodness in your life. Stay alert today to see what He has just for you. Each step of this process is a step of trust and growth. May we trust Him more with each step we take.

My desire is that we learn to trust in the Lord with all our hearts and lean not on our own understanding. I pray that we learn to acknowledge Him in everything we do as He makes our paths known. (Proverbs 3:5-6)
